The site plan is a plan that shows the position of the future building in relation to property lines. It is required by most municipalities to ensure compliance with building laws and regulations before issuing a building permit.

  • Identification of the natural high-water mark or wetland boundary
  • Topographic survey with contour lines on the plan

Setting out is the positioning of a future building on the site. Upon completion of the setting out, the land surveyor issues a “setting out certificate,” which is written confirmation that the setting out has been completed.

Setout operations are governed by the Regulation respecting the standard of practice relating to staking and setting out of the Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec (R.S.Q., c. A-23, r.11).
